We've had another busy week in Division 6. Students spent a lot of time writing Christmas/Winter themed stories, reading to a buddy, and practicing their spelling words. Every spelling group will have a test next Tuesday to wrap up the units before the break.
In Science, students were learning about types of energy (light, sound, electrical, mechanical, thermal). On Wednesday, we had a special guest give us a presentation on electricity; students learned all about where electricity comes from in BC and how it travels. On Thursday, students began designing energy robots to summarize their learning.
In Math, we began a division unit. We started by using manipulatives to solve division word problems, though students at the time didn't realize we were doing division. Since then, students have learned how to write word problems as division questions, and how to change division into multiplication to find the answer. Some students have been drawing pictures to find the answer to division questions instead of using multiplication. The students are already really good at using the skip-counting posters to solve division questions, so once they have all of their skip-counting memorized, they will be pros!
In Art, students completed a directed drawing of Buddy the Elf. Today, students decorated cookies. Students were each given two cookies to decorate; one was for themselves, and the other was to give to someone outside of our classroom.
We had a really fun week, but I think we are all even more excited about next week.
Reminders: ALL Library books must be returned before the break.
