October in Review

There has been a lot of learning this month. In Language Arts, we reviewed nouns and verbs. In Writing, students have been practicing adding details and staying focused. They have also learned how to mark themselves using a Writing Rubric. In Reading, students have been learning how to summarize short stories. Students have also been building up their reading stamina - the current record time for reading without talking or getting up is 21 minutes. The new goal is 30 minutes. In Math, we finished our place value unit and began addition and subtraction. We are now beginning addition with regrouping. In Social Studies, students worked individually or in pairs to create stories or songs to help learn Canada's provinces, territories, and capitals. This month, students have also created some beautiful artwork and have learned about goal setting - you can check out some examples on the Showcase page.
