Words Their Way
Words Their Way (WTW) is a spelling program that focuses on studying spelling patterns, rather than memorizing random words. During each WTW block, students sort their words based on the spelling pattern. Then, the students practice their words by taking turns reading them to a partner and using 'fancy' letters to write them.
In our class, we have four groups of WTW lists. The first sort, for most groups, was meant to be easy to get a used to the WTW process. When a sort has only pictures, students will not be getting tested on the whole word, just a specific part (ex. the beginning consonant). The WTW tests will not be on the same day every week. I will determine when the tests are based on how close the group is to mastering their words. There will never be surprise tests, as I will always give students some notice.
