November 20 - December 1

Happy December! I'd like to start off by apologising for not posting last week. Hopefully, your child told you that I was away for a few days.

These past two weeks have been pretty exciting. One Friday, students attended a school assembly and participated in a House Team Event where they made snowflakes to decorate our school hallways. This past Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we went to the Quesnel Curling Club and learned how to curl. Everyone had a blast and picked it up really quickly.

Throughout all of the fun, we still made time for some learning. Students began a multiplication unit in Math, which was a new concept for the grade 3s. We have been practicing skip-counting daily to help make multiplication easier. Students have learned how to use their fingers to help them skip-count difficult numbers. In multiplication, students have also been practicing using arrays, equal groups, skip-counting, and repeated addition. In Language Arts, students have continued to read daily, and practice Words Their Way. They also wrote a story about the best Christmas (or holiday) ever. In Science, students watched videos, completed worksheets, and even made mini-posters on the states of matter.

Unfortunately, we have had a recent splurge of unkindness in our classroom. We have had a lot of teasing and name calling, as well as students trying to get other students in trouble for no reason. We have some conversations about this (mostly one-on-one) but will continue to have more and longer conversations if this continues.

Reminders: - Library on Tuesday

- The school is accepting sock, glove, hat, and scarf donations for the Mitten Tree Campaign.

- The school is accepting non-perishable food donations for local organizations.
